Thought I’d share my *uncensored* thoughts on how to make your own beats with you: that includes the ups and downs and everything I tried. There was a lot that didn’t work but I eventually found a program that did.

My story of when I first wanted to make music beats online starts back in school… If truth be told I was pretty flat and more wannabe music producer that sick beat maker, you know what I mean I was a long way from being the next Scott Storch or Dr DRE. I had no respect and generally felt a bit low. Dj’ing warehouse parties and for friends, I was cruising along but getting nowhere fast. I guessed my music production skills were holding me back so decided to produce music better and learn how to do it myself.

One problem though, it was all about music software and going into a studio for hours. It cost big bucks and in the end I kind of regretted it. I wanted something simple, effective, easy to use that didn’t’ break the bank. I’d heard that to make beats online was another way to do it so I took some time to find some music production software, a simple beat maker or like to make this possible.

After yet more time and cash I came across a program which is bang on. I signed-up, paid a small one off fee and after a couple of hours got my online beat making of the ground!

So I didn’t have time to go through all that pro music producing info, all the manuals – yeah right! I tried freestyle tapes but they sucked too and as for the prof software too, what a waste. I know I should have known better but lost in the detail and more poor results. If you’re a beginner I reckon don’t go professional as it’s too complicated and ties up your beats as you spend more time with the software than creating your sick beats.

So online beat making as the way forward?

I carried on trying other music production material too. Some did work, well sort of.. I found some good stuff but also spent a load of time messing about with sound libraries, adding my beats and missing out on slick beat making. I got pissed at times and the info overload drove me mad.. How could I just make simple beats online, I’m not a techy, I’m a musician! In the end I got fed up and gave up, for a while at least..
I was at club night down east when I bumped into the DJ and we got talking about music and stuff. I asked him how he’d learnt as I’d remembered him from before and he did an awesome set. He told me it was hell for him to get started and that he was struggling big time for a long time. He’d started using this program called Sonic Producer which really got him going. After a few days I tried it out myself…

What can I say, it changed everything. Within a couple of weeks I was banging out hot beats, my “make beats online” adventure was up and running. All those frustrations I’d had with more expensive and complicated equipment had gone. I could now focus on the beats and get some stuff up quickly, awesome!
